History of Coffee

Coffee has been growing wild in Ethiopia since 850 A.D. It was kept in secrecy for a long time and viewed as a luxury that only Colonial Administrators took pleasure in. Through the efforts of the British East India Company and Dutch East India Company, coffee was made available in England by the 16th century and in the early 17th century coffee plantations were planted in Haiti by French colonists. Soon after, in 1800 the Portuguese moved west and began cultivating coffee plantations in Brazil. The coffee production exportation all over the world by the late 19th century. This mass production helped coffee gain popularity all over the world, especially in the United States and all over Europe. Today, coffee is only second in the exporting market next to oil.
